Obituary of Carl F.W. Wolf
Dr. Carl Fritz Walter Wolf, 84, son of Fritz C. and Bertha (Heidemann) Wolf, born Feb. 4, 1933 in New Hyde Park, N. Y., passed away suddenly on Jan. 17, 2018.
He was most recently a resident of West Reading, PA and previously lived in Manhattan, NY, Wilmington, DL, and New Hyde Park, NY.
Dr. Wolf graduated from MIT with a BS (1953) and an MS in chemical engineering. He was a 1st lieutenant in the US army. Then he worked for DuPont for eight years. He received an MD (1968) from Hahnmann Medical College (now Drexel University). He was board certified in pathology and blood banking and transfusion medicine and served as the Director of the Blood Bank and Transfusion Service at the New York – Presbyterian Hospital, Cornell campus from 1976-2005. He was an emeritus Professor of Clinical Pathology at Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University. He was an Associate Investigator at the Lindsey Kimball Research Institute of the New York Blood Center (1969-1987).
He was the author of many scientific papers, book chapters and patents. He was a member of the AMA, ASCP, AABB, ASC, AICE and of the honor societies of medicine (AOA), engineering (PHU), and chemistry (TBP) and a fellow of the New York, Academy of Medicine.
He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Stewart Manor, NY.
He was a loving uncle to his survivors include Jean Cyganovich, Broken Arrow, OK; Carol Balshuweit, Louisville, TN; Diane Ryan, Bethel, Ct; Eleonore Weir, Newfoundland, NJ; Edward Halpin, VT; John C. Adamec, Carl F.W. Adamec, Gertrude Hudson all of Niskayuna, NY, and companion to Dr. Bonita L. Bachl, West Reading, PA.
