I communicated with Monica almost every single workday – either by email, Skype or phone. Each day since her passing, the crushing realization that we will never speak again hits anew.
I owe a lot to Monica. As a manager, Monica was patient, supportive and generous with her time. She stood behind all of her employees and helped us to grow through training, encouragement, and also correction, when needed. Monica encouraged us to seize every opportunity to grow professionally and to advance in our careers; she advocated for & never stood in the way of her subordinates’ advancement.
Monica lived her faith and credo in the workplace, leading by example. She “walked the walk” by demonstrating her sincere concern for people – not only her family, friends and coworkers, but also for the taxpayers involved in her cases. Monica always put herself in the place of others, looking at issues from their point of view.
As a communicator, Monica was quite impressive. Her ability to speak on the fly – either in front of a group or in Court – was amazing to watch. When called upon unexpectedly, Monica rose to the challenge. Professionally, she was able to get to get to the meat of an issue quickly and to communicate the salient points clearly and directly. She was also very funny and loved a celebration! Many office social events ascended to “the next level” when Monica gave one of her hilarious speeches or whipped up some of her fabulous home-made crepes or other goodies.
My prayers go out to the family. I hope you find comfort in the memories of happier times.
