Obituary of Louis Farella
Louis “Lou” Farella, 57, passed away early Tuesday morning after suffering a heart attack at his Franklin Square home, one day shy of his 58th birthday.
Having been diagnosed with muscular dystrophy in sixth grade, Lou spent nearly half his life in a wheelchair and was mostly paralyzed at the time of his passing. He never allowed it to limit him or temper his infectious warmth and optimism.
He was a gentleman, business owner, sports fan and friend, but the role he relished most was husband. He met his wife, Virginia “Ginny” née Carson in 2007 through a dating website that she had nearly given up on. When she said she would take the bus to their date, he sent a car service to get her instead. He did that for every subsequent date until they were married in 2009. She has lingering limitations from a car accident when she was very young but he never saw them and she never saw his. They took care of each other, and earlier this year renewed their vows on their 10-year anniversary.
Lou was born in Italy on October 16, 1961, then adopted by Raffaele and Mamie Farella when he was 2 years old. They returned with him to the United States. As a young boy he lived in Queens then moved to Franklin Square in sixth grade where he continued to live into adulthood.
While his body began to fail him as he grew, his mind remained sharp. He had a thriving accountancy practice, MF Tax and Financial, that he ran out of his home with administrative support from Ginny. He was loved by his clients who would come back year after year. He was an avid sports fan and lifelong supporter of the Rangers, Jets and Mets.
He is survived by his wife, Ginny, and a large and loving extended family. He was predeceased by his parents.
Lou lived a full and happy life. As Ginny has said in recent days even in her grief, “Our hurt is just for us and for our missing him. He is free of that body now and he is happy.”
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 19 at Krauss Funeral Home, 1097 Hempstead Turnpike, Franklin Square, New York. A visitation will be held from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. After the 10 a.m. service, there will be an interment at Greenfield Cemetery followed by a reception at the Farella home.
