Obituary of Ida J Oberlander

Ida Oberlander of Franklin Square, NY passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 2 at the age of 88. In her final days she was surrounded by loved ones and the peace of Christ.
Born to Max and Therese Litzner in 1935, Ida grew up in Elmont, NY. She studied at the College of Mount St. Vincent with the intent of becoming a nun before changing course and earning a degree in elementary education from Hofstra University. Ida married John Oberlander in 1962.
Ida was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who lived her life in the service of others. She taught in the Hempstead school district until leaving to raise her family. Later, she enjoyed many years working as a substitute teacher in Valley Stream and Franklin Square public schools where her gentle disposition and kind heart endeared her to children and colleagues alike. Ida was a faithful member of St. Catherine of Siena church.
Ida was predeceased by her husband, John, and daughter, Elizabeth. She is survived by her daughter Cathy, son Eric and his wife Katie, son-in-law Paul, granddaughter Maria and her husband Ryan, granddaughter Christina and grandsons Thomas, Brian, James and Danny.
