Frances Poppi, a proud Sicilian-American with an unwavering devotion to family and cherishedtraditions, passed away on July 19, 2023. Born in Brooklyn in 1946 to Josephine and CharlesPisciotta, Frances embraced her heritage with great pride, instilling a sense of cultural identityand love for family in every aspect of her life. She was the youngest of four children, and siblingswith John, Santina, and Lucy. Frances's journey through life included a remarkable marriage of 24 years to her belovedhusband, Bert L. Poppi. Together, they created a loving family. Sadly, Bert passed away in 1997,leaving a hole in Frances's heart that was never fully healed. Nonetheless, her deep love for herhusband remained a guiding force throughout her life. Frances held a deep passion for her family. She adored her children—Leonard, his wife Carrie,Grace, her husband Gary, and Josephine—and her grandchildren—Edward, Charles, andBert—with immeasurable love. Frances cherished every moment spent with her family, relishingthe opportunities to be part of their lives and create lasting memories together. More thananything in her life, she loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother, always willing to give theshirt off her back or the ravioli on her plate if you needed it. As a Sicilian-American, Frances embraced her roots and celebrated them with great fervor.Besides loving to feed anyone who walked through her door, one of Frances's most cherishedtraditions was the annual celebration of St. Joseph's Day. This holiday held great significance inher family, as it honored her family’s history and paid tribute to St. Joseph, the patron saint ofSicily. Frances took great delight in preparing traditional Sicilian dishes such as sfinga, friedbroccoli and cauliflower, stuffed artichokes, and eggplant for her family and friends. St. Joseph'sDay became a joyful occasion filled with love and laughter. A fan of the New York Yankees, The A-Team TV Show, and the Karate Kid movies, Frances lovedcheering for her favorite heroes. She was also blessed with a large and loving extended family,including her sister Lucy, niece and goddaughter Teresa, her husband Rob and their childrenTina, Victoria, and Joseph; her nephew Angelo, his wife Raquel, and their children Dominick,Christopher, and Lucia. Her passing leaves a profound void in the lives of all who knew her. Shewill forever be remembered as a woman of strength, pride, and unconditional love; a guardianof traditions and a beacon of familial unity; a fighter with a playful sense of humor; and acherished wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, daughter, sister, and friend.
