Dear Saporito Family, I was saddened to hear of the passing of Fred, nice guy and good cop. He and I entered the Mounted Unit at the same time in 1968. His building talents were immediately recognized. Fred was repeatedly instrumental in insuring the health of our horses by maintaining functioning waterers in every stall. At one time we had over 150 horses, with the additional work of keeping the stalls in safe condition. Without Fred, it would have been much more difficult to care for our horses. Finally, I always appreciated his radio tuned to "oldies" while he worked in our stables! I feel privileged to have known him. Divo F. Martini (retired Sergeant) Mounted Unit

My parents were blessed with the gift of Fred Saporito’s friendship through six decades of life. Uncle Freddy as we so affectionately called him was a constant at our baptisms, communions and weddings but he was also there for all the many small moments of life. Through the decades during every home maintenance crisis, I can hear my father’s voice yelling, “I'm going to call Freddy!” Uncle Freddy was a master craftsman and a perfectionist. Freddy could be counted on to renovate the homes of all the many people he held under his capable wings. During the renovation of my first house Freddy and my father, Tom set up lawn chairs in my driveway every morning. The contractors worked under the watchful eye of Freddy, who came armed with a toolbelt to complete any task that was not done to perfection. I couldn’t have asked for a pair of better eyes to ensure the job was “done right!”
My parents, Judy and Tom, shared a standing New Years Eve reservation with Dorothy and Freddy and an annual March getaway weekend. I had the privilege of watching the meaning of true friendship that Freddy so willingly offered to my entire family. After my father’s passing, I peered out the back window to find Uncle Freddy single handedly dismantling and carting away our childhood pool. I fondly remembered the hot summer day many years before when Freddy had orchestrated the installation of the pool. I laughed to myself as I remembered the army of children he had assembled to hold up the sides of the pool. We certainly failed at most of his commands and yet he managed to perfectly install the pool that stood for two decades in our yard. Everything Freddy had a hand in stood the test of time and that included his relationships with people. I called out the window to ask him what he was doing and he yelled back, “Don’t worry I am just taking care of this yard for my old pal Tom.” He proceeded to single handedly remove the pool, trim the trees and reseed the yard. When he was finished the yard was restored to immaculate condition.
I was blessed to experience the steady, competent and dependable love he offered to all the many people he had held bonds with in this life. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of being loved by him.
