It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother-in-law, and uncle, Masaaki (Kenneth) Watanabe on May 15, 2022, at the age of 99 ½ years young. He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Bonni (John), Debbie, Steven, and Jackie (Kevin); grandchildren: Michele (Mike), Ken (Katie), Kristin, Heather, Alexis, and Kenny; great-grandchildren: Emily, Hunter, Lauren, Megan, Huck, Wyatt, Ginny, and Cam; sister-in-law, Dottie; as well as his numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years, Sally Fumi; brother, Masatoshi; sister, Mary; brother, George; sister, Kiyoko; and his parents: Orikichi and Suna. Having grown up on a farm and being a self-taught Chef, he was most comfortable working in his garden and cooking/baking in kitchens for The Brass Rail at the NY World’s Fair, The Boardwalk Restaurant at Jones Beach, and The Crest Hollow Country Club. There was nothing better than vegetables from his garden and his cheesecake so amazing that I’ve witnessed people eating it off the floor rather than let even a morsel of it go to waste. Spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, playing games, sharing in their milestones, and making them laugh were his greatest joys.
