Obituary of Jay A Kaufman

Joseph “Jay” Allen KaufmanScottsdale, Az. – 86 passed away peacefully May 7th, 2021. He was born on October 21,1934 to the late Leo and Toby Kaufman in Cook County,/Illinois. Jay and his younger brother Stuart grew up in Detroit, Michigan./He graduated from Central High school in 1952. Then, went on to receive his bachelor’s in business administration from University of Michigan, in 1956./Jay met and married Sandi, the love of his life, in New York City in 1966. He successfully owned both clothing and restaurant businesses. During the mid 1970’sthey relocated with their three daughters back to his home state of Michigan to begin another successful career as a custom builder. Jay and Sandi moved to Scottsdale, Arizona in the mid 1980s. While attending oneof his annual car shows he became smitten with the state./He continued his building career, designing and building homes well past his retirement. Not a day went he wasn’t creatively working on something that excited him. His antique car collection was admired by all who knew him. Jay or Jaybird, as he liked to call himself was a larger-than-life, with a tall stature and a large booming voice. He was an extremely unique man with a gentle heart. His daughters remember his loving demeanor, brightly patterned shirts and ponytail, his love of America, particularly The American Wild West, Turner Classic Movies, U of M Football, The Detroit Pistons, Hershey bars and grape juice, just to name a few.He is survived by his wife Sandra, his daughters Kim Clark (Jamie), Danielle Boes(Kevin), Nina Wozniak (Andrew), 6 grandsons and his brother Stuart Kaufman (Susan).
