It is a privilege to have known "Chuckie" during the ten years since I became a member of Elmont Post 1033. Chuck was a 19-year member who was loved by all. He dedicated much of his life during his membership to the Post and its members. Most of the time he had a stump of an unlit cigar clenched in his teeth, and always greeted everyone with a smile and some friendly words. Until recently he was 'house chairman'- a task he did for many years- and his work kept the Post afloat.
Chuck served in Vietnam with the 82nd Airborne Division, and he wore his 'AA' patch proudly! On my first trip to Normandy, France in 2014, I visited the 82nd Airborne Museum in Ste. Mere Eglise and brought back a challenge coin for him from the museum. Every time I saw Chuck he showed me that he had the coin in his pocket!
Chuck was also a member of several other organizations including VVA, VWVA, VFW, and was a past-president of the UVO. One can only wonder when he found time for himself, but he loved what he did.
To one of the best 'brothers' anyone can have, may you rest in everlasting peace. You've earned your spot in our hearts, and you will not be forgotten.
